The Sporting Edge was opened by Mike & Paula Richardson in 1990. Mike & Paula had been enjoying competitive water skiing since the early 80's. In 1984 they joined the Ski Centurion promotional team. They both competed in the Western Regionals, and Paula qualified for the U.S. Nationals. In 1989 Mike decided to retire from his trading career in the International money market and move onto something more enjoyable.

  Throughout their years of skiing Mike and Paula noticed a lack of knowledgable ski shops in the area. They decided to take their love and knowledge of the sport and share it with others. In March of 1990 they opened the Sporting Edge Ski & Marine in Antioch. They sold water skis, accessories and Ski Centurion tow boats. Within 3 years they grew to be the largest volume Centurion dealer in the nation. In 1993 Mike and Paula purchased a building in the same complex they originally opened, and have remained there for the last 14 years. In 2003 Mike and Paulas' daughter Kelly joined the business. Kelly attended Chico State where she also competed in collegiate water skiing events, including slalom and jump. Raised spending every weekend on the water, Kelly also enjoys wakeboarding and surfing.

  Today when you go into the Sporting Edge you will find Mike and Kelly running the business. Seventeen years later there are still no commissioned sales people, just family. We pride ourselves in a laid back attitude that makes the boat buying experience enjoyable. We are 100% committed to our customers and their satisfaction. We are happy to report that we have now sold several customers their 3rd boats from the Sporting Edge! The Sporting Edge also continues to provide a full pro-shop. With help from long time family friend Lynn Josephson, we aim to meet all your boating needs. Our large inventory includes HO waterskis as well as Hyperlite, Liquid Force and Ronix wakeboards.
